Casa Makasi is located in Mal Pais/Santa Teresa, a beach town close to the southern-most tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, just minutes away from Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve. Here are the most recommended ways to get here.
The easiest/fastest way to get here is by air. There are two domestic airlines in the country with flights several times a day to and from San Jose serving our local airport in Tambor. You can check their schedules online to see if they work your itinerary. From Tambor, a taxi can be arranged for you or you can have a car rental meet you at arrival and do the drive yourself which is 40 minute to Casa Makasi.
Sansa Airlines flies daily from/to SJO international airport.
Nature Air flies daily from/to SJO International airport or Pavas Airport, 20 minutes away from SJO Airport.
If their schedules do not fit your itinerary, another option is to charter a plane, which is financially worthwhile for 4+ people.
A private charter also allows more luggage than the 30 pounds per person with the local public airlines.
The drive from San Jose takes about 6 hours.
First head to Puntarenas, the drive is about 1h30 to 2h. From there you will have to take a ferry across to Paquera. You can check the ferry schedules at :
The ferry crossing takes about 1 hour. It's quite beautiful and very scenic as well as a good opportunity to take a rest from driving.
Once you get to Paquera just go straight and follow the signs that say "Malpaís" or "Santa Teresa". The paved road will end in Cobano, and from there you will continue on a dirt road which is why a 4 wheel drive vehicle is highly recommended. The drive is about a 1h30 …
Once you get into town at what is called "the crossroads" (el cruce), take a left towards Mal Pais. Drive just under 1 km, passing the Mal Pais Surf Camp until you reach a large house on the side of the road. (If you pass Blue Jay's hotel, you have gone just a little too far...) Follow the house signs and take a left up the hill, following the main road and the signs to Casa Makasi or our neighbor Vista Naranja. Casa Makasi is the last house up the hill with a dark wooden gate and a large Casa Makasi sign on the wall.
We also offer private land transfers from San Jose to Mal Pais. Your driver will meet you at San Jose’s airport in Alajuela (Juan Santamaria International Airport) and will ensure your safe and comfortable transport to Casa Makasi, your ocean view luxury villa.
